cancellation & refund policy
every space picks one of three policies and it's printed on the listing before you book. this page is the same table the refund engine uses, so what you read is what you get.
1. the three policies
The refund is a fraction of what you paid, chosen by how far before the booking start you cancel. Boundaries are inclusive: cancelling exactly 24 hrs before on a flexible policy still gets 100%.
flexible
| you cancel | refund |
|---|---|
| 24 hrs or more before start | 100% |
| less than 24 hrs before start | 0% |
moderate
| you cancel | refund |
|---|---|
| 48 hrs or more before start | 100% |
| 24 hrs or more before start and less than 48 hrs | 50% |
| less than 24 hrs before start | 0% |
strict
| you cancel | refund |
|---|---|
| 7 days or more before start | 100% |
| 48 hrs or more before start and less than 7 days | 50% |
| less than 48 hrs before start | 0% |
A booking that has already started cannot be cancelled; unused hours are not refunded.
2. how the refund is worked out
- the fraction applies to the GST-inclusive total you paid, so GST comes back in the same proportion as the booking value. a 50% refund on a ₹7,788 payment (₹6,600 + ₹1,188 GST) is ₹3,894, and your credit note shows ₹3,300 booking + ₹594 GST.
- all arithmetic is in integer paise, rounded half-up once per line. no refund can exceed what you paid.
- lead time is measured from the moment you press cancel to the booking start, both in IST.
- the host’s commission is recalculated on what they keep, not on the original price. hosts never lose money on a cancellation they didn’t cause.
3. when the host cancels
Full refund, GST included, every time, whatever the policy. Host cancellations inside 48 hours also attract a fee on the host side (see the host agreement §8). If the space becomes unusable — power, flooding, a building notice — the same applies and we’ll try to find you another space at the same price.
4. event tickets on Koothu
- tickets are non-refundable unless the event page says otherwise. it’s a show, not a slot; the organizer has already committed the room and the acts.
- if the organizer cancels or moves the event to a different date, every ticket is refunded in full including GST, automatically. you don’t need to ask.
- a time change of under 2 hours on the same date is not a cancellation.
- refused entry for an age restriction printed on the event page is not refundable.
- you can transfer a ticket to a friend from your ticket page (the QR code changes). resale above face value is not allowed.
5. when the money comes back
- we instruct Razorpay the moment the cancellation is confirmed. UPI and wallets usually show it within 1–3 working days; cards within 5–7 depending on the bank.
- refunds always return to the original payment method. we can’t send it somewhere else, even on request.
- your email and WhatsApp (if opted in) get a credit note with the breakdown.
6. exceptions
- weather and public order: a red alert from IMD for Chennai, a curfew or a bandh covering the booking window gets a full refund on any policy. we announce it on the site when it applies.
- medical emergencies: write to support with a hospital note within 7 days and we’ll ask the host to waive the policy; most do.
- the space isn’t what the listing said: tell support within 2 hours of the start with photos. we can refund part or all of the booking from the host’s payout.
- everything else is at the host’s discretion. asking politely works more often than you’d think; we pass the request on.
