terms of service
plain rules for using Koodam (spaces by the hour) and Koothu (tickets to shows in those spaces). if you book, buy a ticket or list a space, these apply to you.
1. who we are and what this covers
Koodam is run by Koodam Spaces Private Limited (“Koodam”, “we”), a company registered in India at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Koodam is a marketplace: hosts list spaces, guests book them by the hour, organizers sell tickets to events held in them. We are the intermediary. We do not own or operate the spaces and we do not put on the shows.
These terms cover the website and app at koodam.in and any subdomain, including Koothu. Hosts also agree to the host agreement. How we handle your data is in the privacy notice. Refund rules are in the cancellation policy; all three are part of these terms.
You must be 18 or older to hold an account or make a booking.
2. your account
- you sign in with a phone number or email. keep the one-time codes to yourself; anything done from your account is on you until you tell us it’s been compromised.
- give us a real name and a working phone number. hosts need to know who is turning up.
- one person, one account. we can close accounts that are used to dodge a ban, spam hosts or game reviews.
- you can delete your account from the account page or by writing to support@koodam.in. bookings that have already happened stay on record for tax and dispute reasons (see privacy notice §6).
3. booking a space
A booking is a contract between you and the host for the hours you pick. Koodam takes payment on the host’s behalf, confirms the slot and holds both sides to the cancellation policy.
- instant book spaces confirm the moment payment succeeds. others are confirmed by the host; if the host does nothing within 24 hours the hold expires and you are refunded in full.
- we hold your slot for 10 minutes while you pay. if payment doesn’t complete in that window the hold is released. this stops one person freezing a whole Saturday.
- the listing is the deal: capacity, minimum hours, what’s included and the house rules. bringing 20 people to a 12-person room is a breach and the host can end the session without a refund.
- you book the hours you use. arriving early or staying late is billed at the listed rate, rounded up to the hour, and charged to your payment method after the host reports it. we’ll tell you first.
- we may cancel a booking ourselves if we suspect fraud, if the host’s listing is removed, or if the space becomes unusable. you get a full refund in every one of those cases.
4. buying tickets on Koothu
- a ticket is a contract between you and the organizer named on the event page. Koodam sells it on their behalf.
- tickets are held for 10 minutes while you pay and released if you don’t. we never oversell: the ticket count is enforced in our database, not by hoping.
- your e-ticket arrives by WhatsApp (if you have opted in) and email, with a code the organizer scans at the door. one code, one entry. don’t post it.
- age notes on an event page (18+, 21+) are the organizer’s condition of entry. bring photo ID; a refused entry for age is not refundable.
- if the organizer cancels or moves the event, you get a full refund including GST, automatically, within 5–7 working days of the cancellation. tickets are otherwise non-refundable unless the event page says so.
- tickets may not be resold above face value. we can void resold tickets.
5. prices, GST and payment
- space prices are per hour, in Indian rupees, and set by the host. ticket prices are set by the organizer.
- GST at 18% is added to the booking or ticket value and shown separately before you pay. Koodam issues a tax invoice; the host or organizer’s GST status is stated on it.
- guests and ticket buyers pay no booking fee. Koodam is paid by a commission on the host or organizer side (12% on bookings, 8% on tickets) — that is between us and them and doesn’t change your price.
- payments are processed by Razorpay Software Private Limited. we never see or store your full card number, UPI PIN or bank credentials. Razorpay’s terms apply to the payment step.
- all amounts are calculated in integer paise. a total is never derived from a rounded, displayed figure.
6. cancellations and refunds
Each space carries one of three policies — flexible, moderate or strict — shown on the listing before you book. The refund fraction depends on how far ahead you cancel. Full tables, host-side cancellations and how GST is handled are in the cancellation policy. Refunds go back to the original payment method and typically land in 5–7 working days.
7. using a space
- treat it like a friend lent it to you. leave it as you found it; report damage before you leave.
- you are responsible for damage caused by you or your group beyond normal wear. the host reports it within 48 hours with photos; we mediate; if it stands, the cost is charged to your payment method up to ₹25,000. above that, the host pursues it directly and we hand over the booking record.
- no illegal activity, no unlicensed public performance, no subletting the slot, no filming people who haven’t agreed to it.
- hosts can end a session for a serious breach of house rules. no refund in that case; if you think it was unfair, raise it with support within 48 hours.
- keep it on the platform. arranging to pay the host directly to skip the commission gets both accounts closed, and you lose the protection in these terms.
8. photos, reviews and what you post
- hosts and organizers own their photos and descriptions and give Koodam a licence to show them on the site, in share cards, printed cards and search results, until the listing is removed.
- reviews must be about a booking you actually made. we remove reviews that are abusive, off-topic or paid for, and we show the host’s reply next to yours.
- we can take down anything that infringes someone’s rights or breaks Indian law. rights holders can write to support@koodam.in with the URL and proof of ownership.
9. what we are and aren't responsible for
We run the marketplace, the payment flow and the support desk. We don’t control the space, the equipment, the event or the people in the room.
- we check that hosts are who they say they are (KYC via Razorpay) and we act on reports, but we don’t inspect every space. photos and specs are the host’s statements.
- to the extent Indian law allows, our liability to you for any booking or ticket is limited to the amount you paid for it.
- nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot be limited under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
- Koodam is an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the 2021 intermediary rules. our grievance officer is [name pending], reachable at support@koodam.in; complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days.
10. disputes and governing law
- first, tell support. a person replies within 24 hours and most problems end there.
- these terms are governed by the laws of India. courts in Chennai have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to your right to approach a consumer forum where you live under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
- disputes between a guest and a host about damage or a no-show are mediated by Koodam first; our decision on the platform record is final for amounts up to ₹25,000.
11. changes to these terms
We’ll change these when the product changes. Material changes are emailed 15 days ahead and the date at the top moves. Continuing to use Koodam after that date means you accept the new version. Bookings made before a change stay on the terms they were made under.
